Electromyography of Shoulder and Scapular Musculature During Progressive Elevation Exercises - Gaunt BW, Uhl TL, Humphrey L, Calico RM, McCluskey GM

Limited evidence exists that delineates muscular demands of exercises used by clinicians to promote full active forward elevation. EMG activity of shoulder and scapular muscles were studied during twelve common clinical exercises to delineate a progression in the demand on the musculature toward active forward elevation. Results revealed significant differences between muscles during the exercises and supports a delineation when working toward active forward elevation.

This research was supported in part by a grant from the McCluskey Education & Research Foundation, Inc.

This paper is currently in review at the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy.
