Electromyography
(EMG) / Nerve Conduction Studies
EMG and nerve conduction
studies (often referred to simply as an “EMG”) are
performed when a peripheral nerve problem, muscle disease, or
neuromuscular junction disorder is suspected. An EMG can help
determine the location of a “pinched nerve” and determine
the severity of the problem. A physician may refer a patient for
an EMG when symptoms such as numbness, tingling, muscle weakness,
and pain are present. This type of testing is done by physical
therapists with extensive training in evaluating neuromuscular
disorders. These physical therapists are board certified specialists
in Clinical Electrophysiology by the American Board of Physical
Therapy Specialties.
Services include:
- Electromyography (EMG)
- Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)
- Somatosensory Evoked Potentials
